A Eurogentec product line, distributed in Malaysia by Infenix Sdn Bhd.
What It Is
Oligo Aptamers is a custom development-and-manufacturing service rather than a catalogue item. The customer names a target; Eurogentec, together with its partner Novaptech, selects, characterises and then synthesises a short single-stranded DNA or RNA sequence that binds it.
Novaptech identifies and optimises the aptamer candidates, while Eurogentec synthesises the final candidate along with all the oligonucleotides needed during development, at research or GMP grade. The deliverable is a defined monoclonal aptamer sequence, supplied unmodified or modified, which can then be reordered against the setups fixed during the development phase.
How It Works
Aptamers are single-stranded oligonucleotides that fold into a specific three-dimensional conformation. It is that tertiary structure — not base pairing — which achieves complementarity with the target, so recognition works much like an antibody binding site.
Candidates are identified by SELEX, an iterative in vitro selection in which proprietary libraries of up to 1015 random oligonucleotides are screened for interacting sequences over several rounds. The enriched polyclonal pool is analysed by NGS sequencing and bioinformatic methods; a few representative candidates are then synthesised and characterised by biophysical methods to identify the best monoclonal sequence. That sequence can finally be shortened and/or chemically modified to raise binding affinity or improve functionality.

Why Laboratories Choose Aptamers
Aptamers offer affinity and specificity similar to — or higher than — traditional monoclonal antibodies, but are produced by a chemical process requiring no animals and no cell culture. That means scalable in vitro production, batch-to-batch reproducibility, and the ability to raise binders against targets that are toxic or non-immunogenic and therefore hard to address by immunisation.
They are roughly ten times smaller than antibodies, show low immunogenicity, are stable at room temperature and resistant to thermal denaturation, and are straightforward to modify chemically — practical advantages in assay, biosensor and delivery formats where a full antibody is too large, too fragile or too immunogenic.
Applications
- Molecular probes for imaging
- Active therapeutic ingredients
- Drug carriers for targeted delivery of conjugated agents
- Reagents for biosensors
- Affinity chromatography
- Cell sorting
- ELISA and other biochemical and analytical assays
- Diagnostic and pre-clinical assay development
How a Project Runs
Aptamer development follows a staged Go / No Go workflow, with a scientific report generated at each step:
Feasibility Study → Library Screening → Sequence Analysis → Characterisation → Optimisation
