Eppendorf is a German life-science company founded in 1945 by Heinrich Netheler and Hans Hinz in the Hamburg district of Eppendorf, from which it takes its name. Headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, Eppendorf is one of the most recognised names in laboratory science — its products so ubiquitous that “an Eppendorf” is everyday shorthand for a microcentrifuge tube in laboratories the world over.

Brand Story
Eppendorf began in the aftermath of 1945 as a workshop for medical devices, where its founders produced pioneering instruments including an early ultrasound device, a nerve and muscle stimulator, and the Thermorapid rapid clinical thermometer. The turn that made the company a household name in science came in 1961: the microliter pipette system, which for the first time made precise, repeatable measurement of microliter volumes a routine act. The first microcentrifuge followed in 1962, and together with the conical plastic reaction tube these products defined the microliter system — the standard working scale of molecular biology ever since.
Six decades on, the company remains Hamburg-based and singularly focused on the laboratory. It has grown by deepening the same competencies — acquiring New Brunswick Scientific in 2007, DASGIP in 2012 and the Himac centrifuge business in 2022 — while its pipettes, tubes and cyclers continue to set the reference standard for precision and ergonomics.
Through Infenix, Malaysian laboratories have local access to the Eppendorf range — the instruments most scientists first learned to pipette with.
